Client: Communes pour le CO de la Gruyere
Type: Education, secondary school
Size: 18'000 m2
-
Set in the beautiful landscape of the Gruyere region, the plot lies on the transition of the small community of Riaz and the surrounding agricultural fields. Placed in the northeastern corner of the perimeter, the building constitutes a vis à vis to the existing school and consequently spans a field for the training grounds and the recreation areas. The existing pathway along the athletic grounds is extended until the schoolyard linking the school to the village. The project occupies less than half the perimeter at hand leaving a considerable surface for future use.
A shot through hall on the ground floor serves as the main access to the school. Two generous light wells penetrate the upper floors and create visual links between the floors. Although set on different levels, the major public programs such as the sports-hall, the assembly hall and the library are linked to this central public space.
