HOUSE OF ARTS AND CULTURE / LB-BEIRUT / INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION / FINALIST

Projected on a highly visible perimeter along the ring road, the HAC acts as an urban connector between the recently rebuilt city centre and the pre-war urban texture of Beirut. The program is allocated in five boxes of different dimensions, each one hosting a specific part of the five programatic clusters. By stacking and shifting the boxes, the HAC receives its specific form that allows it to become an icon for the city of Beirut, a destination for its people. The volumetric composition generates and emphasises various outside spaces like the main entrance, the library terrace, the open air stage and the rooftop terrace. A vertical lobby space joins and connects the five programatic clusters and transforms the in-between spaces into a place for communication and interaction.
